Africa's premier forum for sharing ICT applications to improve patient safety and healthcare delivery.
5-6th October, Crowne Plaza Hotel,
Nairobi, Kenya
The AFRIHealth Conference has been held for the last three years. The Conference was first run in 2007 to bring together researchers, medical practitioners and ICT personnel to share information on developments in the use of ICT to improve healthcare delivery in Africa, (especially East Africa). Each year has provided a wealth of topics which have included:
- Telemedicine developments in Africa,
- Access to patient data,
- Patient Data Switch development,
- The use of EDI for purchasing hospital consumables (particularly Pharmaceuticals),
- Internet based learning programmes for Nurses and Clinicians,
- The use of Cellular phone technology to access diagnostic information, to alert patients to maintain their drug regimes and for the public to access data on drugs and healthcare queries.
- Hospital and Clinic Health Information Management Systems developments using local examples.
The 2010 theme is “e-Health – The African Dimension”
This year we are holding the conference in association with The International Society for Telemedicine and e-Health (ISfTeH). This is a great opportunity for the Society to establish itself as a major contributor to the advancement of healthcare in Africa and we are pleased to be associated with them. We welcome them to Nairobi. The Conference will be the meeting point for all healthcare participants to share ideas, showcase developments, and develop action plans to speed up improvements in the industry.
The format of the conference this year is different to previous years and will be four Workshops on the first day prior to the Opening Plenary session on the second day. Two workshops take place in the morning and two in the afternoon. The second and third day will be plenary sessions with some breakaway groups. The conference has a reputation for establishing work groups and action plans for the twelve months following the conference and we are pleased to report that work begun in 2007 by several work groups has successfully resulted in several ICT applications being developed locally for Kenya.
